Summary edit

Description
English: Common Butterwort In marshy land on the western side of Aran Fawddwy. This is an insectivorous plant - the leaves have glands which secrete a sticky fluid that is attractive to insects; they become trapped, and the leaf slowly curls inwards and eventually digest the insect. It is also known as bog violet or marsh violet. It was thought to have magical properties and the juices from the leaves were rubbed onto cows’ udders in order to protect the milk (and resulting butter) from evil influences.
