editDescriptionCommunity members attending a community led total sanitation workshop in Eastern Kenya (10687511766).jpg |
Motivating a community to move away from open defecation is a crucial step in improving sanitation. Community led total sanitation (CLTS) is a popular methodology for triggering demand for change by working with community members to identify open defecation sites. By raising awareness that as long as even a minority continues to defecate in the open, everyone is at risk of disease CLTS triggers the community's desire for change and mobilizes them to develop local solutions. This picture captures the moment of CLTS triggering in Kilifi District, eastern Kenya, supported by Plan International.
