Description
English: Photograph of a mid-run rehearsal of the original Broadway musical A Connecticut Yankee at the Vanderbilt Theatre, New York City
  • Caption reads as follows:
How "Spontaneous" Fun is Manufactured for Popular Consumption
A back-stage glimpse of a mid-run dress rehearsal of the musical comedy success A Connecticut Yankee. The gentleman in negligee is none other than Lew Fields (of Weber & Fields fame) who has produced this tuneful adaptation of Mark Twain's famous story, and the stage is that of the Vanderbilt Theatre in New York. The actor who clasps the shy maiden in loving embrace is William Gaxton and the s. m. is Constance Carpenter. They are the principals of the piece. The nonchalant knight in full armor is Gordon Burby and the picturesque people in the orchestra chairs are members of the cast who are enjoying the new lines and "business" with which Mr. Fields is further fortifying this outstanding hit in musical comedy.
