Description
English: c/n 18.

Built in 1941 as a B-24A-CO with the US military serial 40-2366 but immediately transferred to the RAF as a Liberator Mk.I with the serial AM927. She was involved in a landing accident prior to delivery and then had to return to San Diego for repair. Cancelled from the RAF order, she was converted to transport configuration as an LB-30A, becoming the prototype for the C-87 Liberator Express. She was civil registered as NL24927 on 1st April 1947 and remained in use by Consolidated until 1948 when she joined the Continental Can Co. and was reregistered as N1503. In 1959 she was sold to Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) and registered as XC-CAY. In 1967 she joined the Confederate/Commemorative Air Force as N12905 and was delivered from Mexico in May 1968. In October 1990 she took up her original civil registration of N24927 and in 1992 she finally made the journey to the UK where she carried out airshow appearances during June and July. I can remember seeing her at Boscombe Down and Biggin Hill airshows, where she was, of course, one of the highlights. In 2007 she was returned to her original bomber configuration as a B-24A and is now painted in an accurate USAAF bomber scheme as worn by the early B-24s. She is seen taxiing in while carrying out rides on the morning of the 2019 ‘Wings Over Dallas’ WWII Airshow. Dallas Executive Airport, Redbird, Dallas, Texas.
