The church was built in the 12th century by the monks of the abbey of Saint-Paul. It is the largest religious building in the Indre valley. In contrast to St. Paul ruined abbey, Notre-Dame-de-Fougeray was spared by time. The bell tower, partially destroyed after the beginning of the War de Hundred Years', was topped by a wooden vault beams. Inside, there are only traces of a fresco "Virgin and Child surrounded by four angels." The frescoes, probably from the thirteenth century were covered with whitewash in the eighteenth or nineteenth century. In the choir is 6 oak stalls (1452/1476) from Saint Paul abbey church |
