Cornelis Saftleven: A study of a seated housewife, 1662
Summary
editDescriptionCornelis Saftleven - A study of a seated housewife 1662.jpg |
English: This figure study of a head of a household with her bunch of keys, monographed and dated 1662, may well represent Saftleven's second wife, Flemish catholic Elisabeth van den Avondt, whom he had married in September of 1655. The woman's deeply relaxed attitude and her frank look towards the draughtsman do not sugggest a staged setup (as is the case in a great majority of Saftleven's figure studies), and the fact that the model is wearing very elaborate earrings is highly unusual for any Dutch 17th century figure study. |
