Title
English: Corner Market at Pike Place, ca. 1915
Description
English: Seattle opened its public market at Pike Place in 1907 so that farmers could sell fresh eggs, dairy products, produce, and other things directly to city dwellers. The Corner Market was built several years later across the street at the corner of First Avenue and Pike Place.

In this busy scene, shoppers hurry with their baskets or stop to chat. An automobile waits while a wagon rushes past, and a streetcar stops at the corner.
