English: This pair of decorative bowls on display at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York are an example of the handiwork of Benjamin Bakewell, whose variously named Pittsburgh-based glasshouses (these are attributed to Bakewell, Pears & Co., the final iteration of the business) was famous for high-quality lead glass in the style of his native England. These pieces - covered compote on the left; fruit bowl on the right - are designed in Bakewell's proprietary "Argus" pattern. As seen in the "35 Centuries of Glass" gallery during an April 2022 visit to the museum. |
