Description
English: The decorative glassware comprising this exhibit at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York represents the so-called "Americo-Bohemian" style that was popular in the mid-19th century. The style takes its name from a technique innovated by glasshouses in Bohemia, which turned out multilayered pieces that included both colored and colorless glass, then cut or engraved the outer layer to expose portions of the inner one. By the 1840s, this style became popular elsewhere too, especially in America, where it was adopted by major Northeastern firms such as the New England Glass Company, the Brooklyn Flint Glass Works, and the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. As seen in the "35 Centuries of Glass" gallery during an April 2022 visit to the museum.
