Summary edit

Description
English: Coulomb scattering of a negative charge's deBroglie extended wavefield by a fixed positive charge, like Rutherford scattering from an attractive rather than a repulsive interaction. This comes from another one of those rare regular solutions of the Schrödinger equation, for this animation using the unscaled Kummer confluent-hypergeometric expression from Messiah[1].

In particular note the phase lag experienced by the "unscattered beam". The size of this phase shift is to first order proportional to the projected-potential, and arises due to wavelength reduction as e.g. an electron passes close to the positive core of an atom. This phase shift is the source of deBroglie phase-contrast in high resolution transmission-electron-microscope images.
