Summary
editDescriptionCountryside near Trowell - geograph.org.uk - 620799.jpg |
English: Countryside near Trowell The thick line of hedges in the middle distance marks the course of the Nottingham Canal and emphasises the fact that this stretch was developed as a contour canal. This means that it follows the same contour for a significant distance, minimising the need for extensive cuttings, embankments or locks. The Nottingham Canal reached this level by means of a substantial flight of locks through Wollaton in the outskirts of Nottingham. It then held this level until it reached the junction with the Erewash Canal at Langley Mill, a distance of around 10 miles. |
