Description
Français : Les courant-jets sont des courants aériens ondulatoires relativement minces qui s'écoule en altitude dans les hémisphères Nord et Sud de la Terre. Ils ont été comparés à des rivières de vent de largeur allant de 160 à 650 kilomètres, d'épaisseur allant de 1 à 5 kilomètres et s'étirant sur plusieurs milliers de kilomètres. Les vents y soufflent en général de 100 à 300 km/h mais des vitesses jusqu'à 725 km/h ont été notés. Ils se retrouvent à plusieurs kilomètres d'altitude et se déplacent en général d'ouest en est, sauf pour le courant-jet tropical qui va d'est en ouest. Les courant-jets sont produits par la différence de températures entre l'équateur et les pôles et marquent les zones de plus fort contraste.
