editDescriptionCoyote Eating a Vole, Photo 1 of 2 (42045740222).jpg |
This female coyote had just grabbed the vole when she looked up and saw me, as shown in this photo. A shown in the next photo, she watched me while she finished eating the vole. This was along Big Dry Creek at Metzger Farm Open Space in Westminster and Broomfield, Colorado. The coyote is probably a transient or coyote without a family or pack. Transient coyotes travel throughout a large area looking for a family or pack to join or for an area that has not been claimed by a family of coyotes. A pack may accept a coyote from outside the immediate family if the food supply in the area is adequate. However, this coyote did not stay around.
