Description

Weeks before Thanksgiving in 1959, cranberries were found to be contaminated with aminotriazole, a weedkiller known to cause cancer in laboratory animals, which the law prohibited from the food supply. Cleared berries were allowed a label stating that they had been tested and had passed FDA inspection, the only such endorsement ever allowed by FDA on a food product.
