Summary
editDescriptionCranborne Manor - geograph.org.uk - 309652.jpg |
English: Cranborne Manor, near to Cranborne, Dorset, Great Britain.
The manor was originally built in the 13th century as a hunting lodge, but was extended and improved early in the 17th century by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury. It is not open to the public. The gardens, laid out by John Tradescant, are open occasionally. Cranborne was once the administrative centre of Cranborne Chase and now the headquarters of the ANOB is situated there. In Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Cranborne is portrayed as Chaseborough. Taken from the Jubilee Trail. |
