Summary edit

Description
English: Albert Litewka, chairman and CEO of Creative Domain, a marketing and advertising firm geared to the entertainment industry, chose Pugh + Scarpa for the renovation of their Los Angeles headquarters because he wanted a firm bold enough, and inventive enough, to express the themes of his firm, while bringing together its seven disparate divisions under one roof. The result reflects the advertising firm’s award-winning reputation. In addition to central work areas designed for extensive light entry and views, Creative Domain includes 19 sound and light-proofed editing suites, 35 offices, conference rooms, video networking infrastructure, and post production facilities. Working from the belief that buildings derive meaning from context, Pugh + Scarpa’s lead designer Larry Scarpa approached the project with a practical eclecticism that let him embrace elements as diverse as a 12 ft.-long spiral steel sculpture and a wall studded with colorful, light-filled Dixie cups. Central to this overall design philosophy was the decision that the space be viewed as one, giant sculpture. To this end, he broke down the material barriers that might ordinarily divide spaces, and instead allowed them to penetrate through each other and provide areas of common ground. After two years of occupancy, Litewka remains more pleased than ever. “It’s a beautiful, busy, exciting place,” he says, “It’s worked tremendously for us, and reminds everyone of why we’re here in the first place.”
