Español: L'any 1.898 Eusebi Güell va encarregar a l'arquitecte Antoni Gaudí el projecte d'una església per a la Colònia Güell. Durant els anys següents Gaudí va realitzar diversos estudis previs que van culminar en una maqueta de l'església, instal·lada en el seu propi taller, situat en el mateix turó on s'aixecaria l'edifici.
L’any 1908 es va inciar la contrucció del Temple. No obstant això, l'ambiciós projecte, que preveia una església amb dues naus, inferior i superior, rematada per diferents torres laterals i un cimbori central de 40 metres d'altura, quedaria inacabat. L'any 1914 els fills d’·Eusebi Güell van comunicar a Gaudí que no seguiria finançant les obres en curs i aquest va abandonar el projecte. Al novembre de l'any següent el bisbe de Barcelona beneïa la nau inferior, l'única que es va arribar a construir, fet que motivaria que l'església s'anomenés popularment cripta. Entre 1915 i 1917, un nou constructor va tancar la nau. Malgrat quedar inacabada, l'església suposa un punt culminant en l'obra de Gaudí. Aquesta edificació inclou, per primera vegada de forma unitària, la pràctica totalitat de les seves innovacions arquitectòniques
