Translated by Frank Thorn:

"The count of Mortain has 1 estate which is called Croyde, which Ordwulf held on the day that King Eadweard was alive and dead, and it paid geld for 1 hide. 10 ploughs can plough this. Erchenbald holds this from the count. Of it Erchenbald has 1 virgate and 3 ploughs in demesne and the villans 3 virgates and 6 ploughs. There Erchenbald has 10 villans and 9 bordars and 2 slaves and 11 beasts, and 12 pigs and 100 sheep and 5 acres of meadow. This is worth 4 pounds and, when the count received it, it was worth the same amount. And Ordwulf’s sister held 1 virgate of it and she could not separate from Ordwulf".
This text, nor that of the Exchequer Domesday Book, supports the assertion of Risdon, Tristram (d.1640), Survey of Devon, 1811 edition, London, 1811, with 1810 Additions, p.340, concerning "Branton" (i.e. Braunton): "...Cridbay so called of a village adjoining which Erchembald Flandrensis held by the name of Cridhold at the Conquest". The surname Flandrensis ("of Flanders") is not mentioned, thus not giving a direct link to the family surnamed Fleming which subsequently held several of his manors for several centuries. However circumstantial evidence has prompted many sources to deduce that the link is certain.
