Crozant (Creuse).

Les ruines du château médiéval dominent la vallée de la Creuse.

La situation de ce promontoire entre la Creuse et la Sédelle, en fait un lieu de défense stratégique depuis la préhistoire.

Philippe Auguste, en 1214, considérait déjà le "Crusanum Castrum" comme une forteresse de frontière hautement stratégique*.

Au 19 ème siècle, George Sand amènera dans la région de nombreux peintres, dont Monet, qui formeront ce qu'on appellera "l'école de Crozant".


  • Le "Crusanum Castrum" figure dans la trève signée entre Jean roi d'Angleterre (Jean Sans Terre) et Philippe-Auguste en 1214.

The ruins of the medieval castle overlooking the valley of the Creuse.

This promontory between the river Creuse and Sédelle river is a strategic place since prehistoric times.

Philippe Auguste, in 1214, already considered the "Crusanum Castrum" as a highly strategic border fortress *.

In the 19th century, George Sand will bring many painters in the region, including Monet, who will form what we call "school of Crozant".


  • The "Crusanum Castrum" appears in the truce signed by King John of England (John Lackland) and Philippe-Auguste in 1214.
