Summary edit

Description
English: Stunning jewel-toned colors swaddle the islands of the Bahamas and edge the north-central coast of Cuba, marking shallow waters and coral reefs. On November 27, 2018, The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image that captured the gorgeous waters of the Bahamas and Cuba. The underwater terrain between southern Florida (north of this image) and Cuba the underwater terrain is hilly and shallow. The crests of the tallest hills comprise the islands of the Bahamas. The most striking feature seen in this image is the large Grand Bahama Bank, a large underwater hill underlying Andros Island in the west to Eleuthera Island in the east. The distinct contours of the Grand Bahama Bank are sharply outlined in dark blue, indicating the seafloor drops off deeply. While the basin surrounding the Grand Banks drops to as low as 4,000 meters (13,100 feet), the water depth on the Banks can reach less than 10 meters (33 feet).
