Description
English: Cuckoo Pint - Oatclose Plantation Arum maculatum and alternatively known as Lords-and-Ladies, Starchwort, Wake Robin etc. This specimen was growing on the edge of the wood amongst the Ivy and Harts Tongue ferns. The berries are poisonous. The roots of this plant used to be processed to make starch to stiffen the ruffs of the Elizabethans. A type of arrowroot also was made on the Isle of Portland in Dorset called Portland Arrowroot or Portland Sago.
