Summary
editDescriptionCulmeArms.PNG |
English: Armorials of Culme family of Canonsleigh & Molland-Champson, Devon: Azure, a chevron ermine between 3 pelicans vulning their breasts or. Also the arms of Meadows/Medowe of Witnesham Hall, Suffolk (16th c) (Burke's Landed Gentry, 1937, pp.1573-4). As "culm-land" is "meadow-land", "meade", used for livestock grazing, it appears that one family adopted a differenced version of the other's arms on the basis of the similar apparent meaning of the surnames. Also arms of Meade, etc. |
