English: Cumberland Basin and Plimsoll Bridge. The Cumberland Basin was constructed as a solution to Bristol's large tidal range which caused problems for ships in Bristol Harbour. The scheme was produced by William Jessop and construction began in 1802. At the far end of the basin is the Plimsoll Swing bridge ST568723. Looking West. |
