Summary edit

Description
English: Cup-marked granite boulder south-east of West Hill A rare example of an andesite (granite) cup-marked stone, probably of Neolithic date, found during a survey of West Hill hillfort and its surroundings. Most of the cup- and cup and ring marked rocks in Northumberland are found on the much more easily worked, Fell Sandstone, to the east of the County. Yeavering Bell can be seen behind and West Hill is to the left (out of picture). The presence of a marked stone below the much later hillforts indicates that this area has been important to people from prehistoric times. The stone is about 0.9m square and 0.6m high and is marked with four large cup-marks 65mm and 85mm in diameter and up to 12mm deep on the right side, near the camera although difficult to see in the current lighting conditions http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/search/fr.cfm?rcn=NSMR03-13338
