DescriptionCurrock railway footbridge (3) - approach from Denton Holme - geograph.org.uk - 1197293.jpg |
English: Currock railway footbridge (3) - approach from Denton Holme This view from the footpath beside Maryport Cottages shows the height of the bridge. After years of complaints from local residents about the state of this bridge, hope of improvement came in 2008 from Connect2. This is a project run by the charity Sustrans, with £50m help from the Big Lottery Fund, to develop walking and cycling paths throughout Britain. A cross-city scheme for Carlisle has been drawn up, which includes a link to Currock via the footbridge http://www.sustransconnect2.org.uk/schemes/project_detail.php?id=5 . Additional funding has to be found locally, but this has become a major stumbling block to completion of the route. The cost of installing ramps and renovating or rebuilding the footbridge has been estimated at £600,000 to £1.5m.
