Summary edit
DescriptionCwt y Bugail Quarry - geograph.org.uk - 563545.jpg |
English: Cwt y Bugail Quarry Cwt y Bugail was partly an open quarry with two pits, north and south, and partly a slate mine with a number of adits leading to underground chambers. Quarrying began on this remote site in the 1820s, but the quarry only flourished after 1863 with the building of the Rhiwbach Tramroad which passed near to Cwt y Bugail. The proprietors paid for the right to transport finished slate from the quarry along this tramway. In the late 19th century this amounted to some 3,000 tons p.a. Cwt y Bugail ceased operating in the 1960s. |
