L'hôtel particulier construit en 1840-1842 pour le physicien Auguste de La Rive par Jean-Pierre Guillebaud donnant sur la terrasse des remparts a été voulu comme un palais florentin de la Renaissance par l'auteur imprégné d'architecture italienne. Il comporte quatre corps de bâtiment autour d'une cour, caractérisées par leur appareil de bossage et par l'élégante solution de la tour en avant-corps sur la façade de la Treille. Actuellement siège du Département de l'économie et de l'emploi de l'Etat de Genève.
