Description
English: D.J.Williams memorial stone. Polished granite stone erected in West Street in 1985, commemorating

D.J. Williams (1885-1970), born at Rhydcymerau, Carmarthenshire. After a short spell as a collier in the Rhondda he continued his education at Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Oxford. He took degrees in English and was eventually appointed to the Grammar School in Fishguard where he taught English up to his retirement in 1945, remaining here until his death in 1970. He was among the founders of Plaid Cymru and spent time in Wormwood Scrubs for his part in the symbolic burning of the bombing school on the Llŷn peninsula by Welsh nationalists in 1936. He was one of the leading Welsh writers of his day.

The inscription is: D J WILLIAMS/ABERGWAUN/1885-1970/LLENOR/CENEDLGARWR(meaning: Literary man/Nation lover)

The stone was originally a gatepost taken from Caersegan Farm on Pencaer, see 311217.
