Português: O Ilmo. E Rev.mo Sr. D. George de Lemos, religioso de São Domingos, foi confirmado em 9 de Março de 1556, foi o primeiro prelado que (veio) a esta Ilha. Renunciou em 1562. (c. 1510-1574) D. frei Jorge de Lemos (Lisboa, c. 1510; idem, antes de 24 mar. 1574) era filho de Francisco Velho, escrivão dos armazéns das Casas da Mina e da Índia, e de Brites de Lemos, filha de Francisco Lobo da Gama, de Montemor-o-Novo, que Noronha eleva a “nobres pais” e “nobre nascimento” (ob. cit., p. 89), para o que não vemos especial motivo. Tomou o hábito dos Pregadores no convento de São Domingos de Benfica, em Lisboa, por 1528, quando ali era prior frei Jorge Vogado e ao mesmo tempo que frei Bartolomeu dos Mártires (1514-1590), depois eleito arcebispo de Braga, 1558-1559 e representante dos interesses ibéricos em Trento, em 1562 e 1563, beatificado a 4 nov. 2001. |
