Description Two Japanese Navy Aichi D3A1 Type 99 carrier bombers ("Val") fly near a U.S. Army 38th Reconnaissance Squadron Boeing B-17E (s/n 41-2408) that arrived over Oahu from California (USA) in the middle of the Japanese air raid. The B-17 was piloted by First Lieutenant Karl T. Barthelmess.
The B-17E 41-2408 was later used to evacuate General Douglas MacArthur from the Philippines on 25 March 1942.
