Title
German Engineers belonging and supporting the Implementation Force (IFOR) in Bosnia as part of Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR.
Description
  • Scope and content: The Donji Bratinia Bridge, just north of the city of Gorazde, is re-opened after having been shut down after its' destruction by North Atlantic Treaty Organization air strikes. The new bridge is a British Mabey Johnson bridge assembled by a Battalion of German Engineers belonging and supporting the Implementation Force (IFOR) in Bosnia as part of Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR. Lieutenant General Michael Walker, Commander of the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps, with the assistance of a Bosnian interpreter and a German interpreter, speaks to the German Army Engineers and the local Bosnian population gathered there to witness the official opening ceremony. Beginning in December, 1995, US and allied nations deployed peacekeeping forces to Bosnia in support of JOINT ENDEAVOR. The provision of a secure environment is at the heart of the reconstruction effort in Bosnia.
