Deutsch: Das von Otto Korn entworfene Wappen wurde am 27. Mai 1950 vom niedersächsischen Innenministerium genehmigt. Die Eiche stellt den Upstalsboom dar. Dieser war während der Zeit der Friesischen Freiheit im 13. und 14. Jahrhundert die Versammlungsstätte der Abgesandten der friesischen Landesgemeinden, der Sieben Seelande, westlich der heutigen Stadt Aurich. Rot und Gold sind die Farben der Häuptlingsfamilie tom Brok, welche Burgen in Aurich und Oldeborg hatten. |
