Deutsch: Das vom Heraldiker Otto Rössler von Wildenhain entworfene und vom niedersächsischen Ministerium des Inneren am 27. Mai 1950 genehmigte Wappen zeigt das Niedersachsenross und das Kurmainzer Rad. Beide Symbole stehen für früheren Zugehörigkeiten. Die Tabakblätter erinnern an den Tabakanbau im 19. Jahrhundert im Kreisgebiet.
English: The arms were granted on May 27, 1950. The upper part of the arms show the horse of Lower Saxony; the lower part the wheel of Mainz; both symbolize the former belongings. The leaves indicate the importance of tobacco cultivation in the 19th century. |
