Deutsch: Wappen des ehemaligen Amtes Pelkum, seit 1975 Stadtteil von Hamm: „In Gold (Gelb) über einem dreireihig von Rot und Silber (Weiß) geschachten Schildfuß, eine freischwebende aufrechte rote Haile mit drei ineinander verschränkten kleineren und zwei nach oben und nach unten geöffneten größeren Gliedern an den Enden.“
Das Wappen wurde 1939 dem Amt Pelkum verliehen. Die Kette (auch als Gütelschließe oder Haile) gedeutet, stammt vom Wappen der im frühen 19. Jahrhundert ausgestorben Familie der Herren von Bönen, zugleich war es das Symbol der Herren von Northof. Der geschachte Schildfuß erinnert an die frühere Zugehörigkeit zur Grafschaft Mark.
English: „Or, above a terrace in base chequy trifarious gules and Argent, a rising five-parted hobble gules with three smaller and two bigger rings into in each other. The bigger ones with openings at its ends.“
The arms were granted in 1939 for the Amt Pelkum and is now used from the borough of Hamm-Pelkum. The arms combine the arms of the Counts of the Mark (checquered bar) with a chain derived from the arms of the former Lords of Boenen, who ruled large part of the area in medieval times. |
