Object history In Rittersheim gehörte zur Grundherrschaft der Trierer Abtei St. Maximin ausgedehnter Besitz, und auch die dortige Kirche war diesem heiligen Trierer Bischof geweiht. Das wohl nach älterer Vorlage 1616 entstandene Gerichtssiegel entspricht dem Wappen und zeigt den heiligen Miximin mit den Initialien s und m für sanctus Maximinus. Die Wappenfarben sind die der letzten Ortsherren vor der Französischen Revolution, der Grafen von Nassau-Weilburg. Die bereits 1951 beantragte Wappenverleihung hat sich aus konfessionellen Gründen bis 1971 hingezogen. Das Wappen wurde von der Bezirksregierung, Neustadt genehmigt.
