Deutsch: Der Ammonit im Hauptfeld weist auf die Lage des Gemeindegebiets auf den Höhen der Eichstätter Alb hin, deren Jurasteinbrüche seit Jahrhunderten von wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung sind. Sie sind für das Vorkommen zahlreicher Fossilien berühmt. In den Kalkplatten wurden Versteinerungen von über 600 verschiedenen Tierarten gefunden. Bei den Ammoniten handelt es sich um eine vor etwa 150 Millionen Jahren lebende Weichtierart. Viele Versteinerungen sind im Museum Harthof zu besichtigen. Im Schildhaupt sind Attribute von Heiligen vereint, denen Kirchen im Gemeindegebiet geweiht sind. Das Balkenkreuz weist auf die Kirche St. Georg in Schernfeld hin, der Pfeil auf St. Sebastian in Sappenfeld und St. Ägidius in Schönfeld. Das Flammenschwert steht für St. Michael in Rupertsbuch (Pfarrsitz in der ehemaligen Gemeinde Workerszell). Damit sind alle 1971 bzw. 1978 eingegliederten Gemeinden im Wappen repräsentiert. Rot und Silber sind die Farben des Hochstifts Eichstätt; sie weisen auf die bis 1803 andauernde Landesherrschaft hin. Die Farben Blau und Silber sind dem Kloster Rebdorf zuzuordnen, das als Grundbesitzer im Gemeindegebiet von Bedeutung war. |
