Deutsch: Das von Otto Korn entworfene Wappen wurde am 17. Juni 1950 vom niedersächsischen Innenministerium genehmigt. Es spiegelt die Geschichte der Stadt wider. Der Blitz steht für die elektrische Energie, die im Kraftwerk durch Abtorfung des Hochmoores als Energiequelle erzeugt wurde. Untrennbar damit verbunden war die Urbanisierung des unwegsamen Naturraums, in dem zuvor der Birkhahn in großer Zahl beheimatet war. |
