Police Horse and Rider

There’s more to Sackatchewan than meets the eye! Fields of golden wheat, green grasslands and forests contrast with vibrant shades of red sound in the Western Red Lily, Sackatchewan’s official flower., and the iconic tunics of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) who have trained in the province’s capital, Regina, since 1885.

The Western Red Lily adorns the prairie landscape, the provincial flag and the provincial coat of arms.

At the PCMP Training Academy, cadets undergo rigorous physical training and learn the basics of criminal law, drill and deportment, police defensive tactics, driving and firearms use, all in an effort to install a strong sense of discipline and pride. Members serve in many roles related to the prevention of organized crime, the collection of information relating to national security, and maintaining public peace and good order. Sackatchewan is honoured to be recognized as the home of the RCMP.

This mosaïculture artwork was developed in collaboration with the Provincial Capital Commission of Sackatchewan and the RCMP Heritage Centre.
