English: Representing the transition from the era of the front-engined rear platform buses operated with a conductor, to that of the rear-engined one man operated buses, preserved local examples of both types are pictured here in front of the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge during the 2006 Teeside Running Day.
Wearing their original identities, on the left is the newer Teesside Municipal Transport bus L544 (reg. JDC 544L), a 1973 Daimler Fleetline, while on the right is the older Middlesbrough Corporation bus 99 (reg. JDC 599), a 1958 Dennis Loline Mk1. Both buses have bodywork by Northern Counties; the Loline has a single entrance via an open rear platform, with 36 seats upstairs and 31 down, while the Fleetline has a closeable dual-door layout, with 47 upstairs & 27 down. |
