English: Newton Abbot - Plymouth stopping train on Dainton Bank. View eastward, towards Newton Abbot etc.; ex-GWR Exeter etc. Plymouth - Penzance main line. 'Castle' No. 4081 'Warwick Castle' with only five coaches has eschewed assistance up this worst of the infamous South Devon Banks - nearly three miles of 1-in-45 to 57 westward from Aller Junction - and the fire is clean. This 34-year old 'Castle' lasted another 4½ years before succumbing to the Dieselization that was just beginning in these parts. |
