Resident Aces High DC-3 Dakota G-DAKS ('KG874') takes off from North Weald. Originally C-47A 42-100884 with the USAAF, it became TS423 with the RAF in 1944 and then went to the RCAF. It is a D-Day, Arnhem and Berlin Airlift veteran After several further owners it was rescued from the fire dump at Catterick by Mike Woodley (Aces High) in 1979. Subsequently it appeared in many film and TV productions including Band of Brothers, Land Girls, Memphis Belle and Tenko. It became N147DC in 1998 and is now based at Dunsfold, painted once again as 42-100884 "Mayfly". Photo: Dick Gilbert, Mildenhall Air Fete, 23 May 1987. |
