English: I found the name on another site, but concluded that that is not precise, as I do not remember there being an entrance, just a very strong tower. The inscription actually is on the eastern flank of the northeastern tower. One can even see it on Google Maps' satellite view. At the northwestern edge of what one may call the old town there is a walled area of roughly 150 x 200 meters. It was erected in 1078 by the Seljuks, a Turkish people, using stone taken from the walls of the city. It has a moat, but unlike any other citadel in Syria does not lie on higher ground, but is level with the city. The citadel has been overhauled several times. I always found it closed, and all I show here are pictures of the exterior, mainly the northern wall, which is curved. Across a road from it there are houses along a rivelet, the Baniyas Stream. On some pictures I show just those houses. On some I even wander off further, into a small ecological garden between that stream and the somewhat wider Barada River.
