Mr. Centipede...

Centipedes (from Latin, centi-, "hundred", and pes, pedis, "foot") are arthropods. Centipedes are elongated metameric creatures with one pair of legs per body segment. Centipedes have a rounded or flattened head, bearing a pair of antennae at the forward margin. They have a pair of elongated mandibles, and two pairs of maxillae. These limbs, or maxillipeds, end in sharp claws and include venom glands that help the animal to kill or paralyze its prey.

Facts:

1. Centipedes are known to be highly venomous, and often inject paralyzing venom.

2. Despite the name, centipedes can have a varying number of legs, ranging from 30 to 354. Centipedes always have an odd number of pairs of legs.Therefore, no centipede has exactly 100 legs.

3. Centipedes are predominantly carnivorous.

4. Their size can range from a few millimeters in the smaller to about 30 cm (12 in).

5. Centipedes can be found in a wide variety of environments.

6. They normally have a drab coloration combining shades of brown and red.

7. Worldwide, an estimated 8,000 species of centipedes are thought to exist.

Specs; Scientific name: Chilopoda. Species: 8,000 approx. Type: Insect / Arthropod. Legs: Pair of 15-191. Eyes: Some have Compound (360 angle view), but some don't. Antennae: 2. Blood type: Cold Blooded & Possess hemolymph which is often a grey or greenish. It contains a a protein called hemocyanin, which turns blue when it reacts to oxygen. Diet: carnivorous and prey upon soft-bodied insects, spiders, worms and other arthropods. Lifespan: 1-6 year approx.

Habitat: have a wide geographical range, where they even reach beyond the Arctic Circle.
