DescriptionDancing Ganesha, Govt Museum Chandigarh.jpg |
English: Dancing Ganesha,
Kanauj, Uttar Pradesh 10th Century AD Acc No G 76 Ganesh is seen dancing on a lotus placed on a pedestal. Of his 8 hands only 2 are intact. His left hand is placed on the left hip and right possibly holds a pot of sweet balls (laddukas) brought near the trunk. He wears amulets, anklets and snake (sarpa yajnopavita) as scared thread. On the right of God is a seated figure playing a drum. The graceful disposition of the body into three flexions (tribhanga), the placement of the principal pair of hands in the so called katihasta and dangling sacred thread bring out the swing of the dance.
