Summary edit

Description

Two aircraft from the maker de Havilland, seen at the small village of Dallas, Morayshire, Scotland in the 1970's. (I've no idea what the smoke was from).

de Havilland produced a very wide variety of aircraft, perhaps most famously the Mosquito from WW2 and the first commercial jet, the Comet. The bulk of their aircraft tended to be smaller types, such as seen here.

De Havilland was bought by Hawker Siddeley in 1960 and soon afterwards the famous name dissapeared.

On the left, the well known DH.82 Tiger Moth. Some 8868 were made, starting in 1931 and served as the primary trainer for the RAF, and other airforces. Many are still flying today, in private hands.

It was very successful but was eventually replaced (in 1946) by the DHC-1 Chipmunk - seen on the right. It was designed in dH's factory in Canada and production took place there, and also in UK.

The RAF continued using them up until 1996.

I have fond memories of Chipmunks, having flown examples on various occasions. Many of them are also now in private hands.
