Summary

edit
Description The DH Venom jet fighter was developed from the Vampire and was widely used by many Air Forces and was also modified to fly off aircraft carriers. No. 14 Sqn RNZAF flew Venoms in action in Malaya, against the communist guerrillas. The Venom coming to Wings over Wairarapa was built in Switzerland (under licence) in 1956 and it flies in from Whanganui for its display. The fighter's paint scheme and identity is of the 14 Sqn aircraft flown in Malaya by the late Trevor Bland, who was one of the original organizers of the NZ War Birds. Although some 1600 Venoms were built, we believe that John's Venom is the only airworthy & flying DH Venom left in the world.
