| Description |
English: Decaying jetty on western tip of Rock Island This Jetty was built in the 1890s for the construction of the second Fastnet Lighthouse. Granite was shipped here from Cornwall where it was mined. It was unloaded and stored on Rock Island until needed at the construction site. The granite was pre cut by hand in Cornwall and the lighthouse fitted together like a big jigsaw. Not one stone was rejected and the column has required zero maintenance since. The jetty however is decaying after a century of weather and is quite dangerous. |
