English: Defensive Ditch, Maiden Castle These steps are rising up the last rampart on the north side of the hill fort. There are two main ramparts on the N side and three on the south, with deep ditches in between. This was the main home of the Durotriges when the romans invaded and it was captured by Vespasian. |
