Monsieur,
Je m’étais flatté qu’il me serait possible de me présenter chez vous avant la séance de l’académie, pour y solliciter en personne, ainsi que l’usage et les convenances l’exigent impérieusement, l’honneur de vote suffrage. Il me faut renoncer à cette démarche dont je vous prie de vouloir bien n’attribuer l’abstention qu’à une indisposition obstinée, qui me retient chez moi depuis quinze jours et qui pourrait compromettre gravement ma santé, si je m’exposais au froid avant la guérison.
Veuillez agréer, monsieur, avec l’expression de l’admiration la plus sincère, celle de ma haute considération.
