Summary

edit
Description This is a close-up of a male Dendrosoter protuberans Braconid wasp that I found on the wall in my front room a few days ago. It almost certainly emerged from one of the Ash log that I had in the room for the woodburner. Earlier I posted a photo of the galleries made in the logs by Bark Beetles. This species of Braconid (unlike many others) is easy to recognise from wing venation and especially the ornamented reddish bulges on the top of its head and the swollen segment in its maxillary palps. The wasp was identified by Gavin Broad, Senior Curator of Hymenoptera at the Natural History Museum.
